Displaying PIREPS reliably in iFlyEFB would be helpful for planning and weather avoidance. iFlyEFB doesn't have a reliable, useful Pirep feature.

Reasons for adding feature:
  • Planning: When planning a flight over 1 hour I must always use another app because iFlyEFB does not provide complete weather planning. Whenever I need to gain deeper insight into turbulent airmets, I have to use another app to see if there is actually turbulence being experienced.
  • In flight CRM:
    • Pirep information received via adsb is buried deep in a weather screen which makes it finding it nearly impossible within the rehlm of CRM.
    • There are easily 50+ airports along a 1hr flight that could be hiding a Pirep that might be important to the safety and comfort of my flight.
    • In order to say there aren't any Pireps, I have to look inside all 50+ airport weather screens. Nobody does this.
  • Misleading/False information:
    • Pireps in iFlyEFB only comes from ADSB data. Adventure Pilot servers do not provide Pirep data to iFlyEFB (see next bullet)
    • "NO PIREPS IN VICINITY" is always displayed on the ground even when there are Pireps directly overhead.
  • Safety issue:
    • A windshear pirep at 200ft on departure would not be available on screen to an iFLYEFB pilot. Thankfully I was at a towered airport who relayed this information and allowed me to delay takeoff or alter my departure procedure. I rarely fly from a towered airport.
Options for speed to market:
  • Add "Pirep" to Airmet/Sigmet (METs) toggle:
    • Tool already draws 4 colored boxes on screen. Pirep would be a 5th box.
    • Click event already displays information about the MET. Raw text is fine.
    • Hardcode the size of the Pirep box on screen to a small area where it was recorded
    • Make active for 1-2hrs after reported (or whatever the standard is)
    • Color: Clouds, Ice, Turbulence icons are nice, but I could definitely survive hovering over a one-color-for-all-pireps to see what flavor it is. Optionally you could just make that box the same color as the Airmet but less transparent. (Now you don't need another color... :))
  • Fuel/Pirep toggle: Fuel label can display 3 characters and colors that could match the Airmet colors. Either Fuel or Pirep could be shown. Not both at the same time.
  • Metar/Pirep toggle: Dot can use the same colors as Airmet colors. This would provide an on-screen method for finding available pireps. Either the Metar dot or the Pirep dot would be shown. Not both at the same time.
  • Nearest. Create a Pirep Search Type. The nearest weather is already displayed with the item returned (I didn't know this until I searched Custom Waypoints!). Click on the weather icon and go to Weather/Pirep page :)
Options for safety (also speed to market):
  • Use "Alerts/Warnings/Info" when a pilot nears a Pirep.
    • Reuse traffic options for setting notification sensitivity
    • Offer to Toggle ON Pireps in the dialog
    • Offer to open weather window to the pirep tab
    • Offer to pull up "Nearest" list of pireps (see below)
  • Use "Nearest" list
    • Airport list filtered to pireps in the area (side note. clicking the weather metar on the Nearest list should open weather.)
    • Display Pireps as a Search Type: Nearest weather is already chosen, so Clicking on item would open to weather.

DO THIS ONE THING NOW: Display "PIREPS ONLY AVAILABLE VIA ADSB SIGNAL" if no ADSB signal is available. Stop stating "NO PIREPS IN VICINITY" when you aren't even checking. Bad data is more dangerous than no data.

I love this app and everything you have put into making it!
