No luck searching here for 2 days (admittedly I am not tech savvy). Last time I attempted to upgrade from my Stratux I purchased a Dual XGPS170D since it was listed as compatible. Turns out that was not true (does blue tooth, but not wifi). Shucks.

So - - what are the listed adsb receivers that will successfully communicate to my 720 while flying ?? I really like the 720, but not having traffic and weather is a bummer since my Stratux quit working.

Thanks in advance,

I'm not part of Adventure Pilot/iFly/etc. But I would imagine that any ADSB device that broadcasts on WIFI should work.

I have a Stratus 3 and it works, as long as you set it on "Open ADSB". You might contact the Dual XGPS170D company, and explain that it doesn't work, and they may let you return it. Or perhaps there's a setting in it that will broadcast on WiFi instead of Bluetooth.

MD - - thank you for the feedback. Additional info: For my Sentry adsb receiver, nothing shows up on the 720 as a choice, and also no luck selecting "Auto Detect" on the screen. My understanding is that the Sentry is limited to the Foreflight software and systems. Correct?

I will look into the Stratus as one of my choices. Looking for small, with battery, and not too expensive.

Last time I attempted to upgrade from my Stratux...
Curious why you're trying to "upgrade" from the Stratux. I've been using a Stratux (assembled myself) for almost 10 years now and it works flawlessly. It's dual-band, supports ADSB traffic and weather products, and works seamlessly with iFly. I might be able to achieve equal performance with another device, but I'm not aware of anything that would be an "upgrade" from what I have.

I have a second home-built Stratux (purchased used) that I keep at home to use for testing with beta versions of iFly, with the idea that it would be my backup in case my original Stratux ever dies. I've had it for about 5 years now and it too works flawlessly.

Our Stratux works great. I'm using the EU version of stratux, it's stable, AHRS works as expected and I really hope to get many more years of service out it.

Cobra and Mark,
Many thanks for the responses. My Stratux had worked very well for about 5 years and then quit. Per the vendor, I need to pull the SD card and re-configure / re-boot / re-program the card. That's beyond my somewhat limited computer capabilities. And I was ready to move up from the plug-in/un-plug strap-on battery routine. So, if there is a reasonable alternative ($ .. ?) I am willing to upgrade.

A possible alternative is .... receiving a VERY simple step-by-step guide to help me attempt to re-boot the Stratux. Maybe .....

Go figure - - I can build an airplane but struggle with the software thingys .....

Fly safe,
Nelson

It's been a while since I built my StratuX, and I haven't used it since we had the StratuS3 installed in the plane, but it seems I downloaded and installed the StratuX program on a blank SD card myself. I don't recall it being very difficult, or requiring special tools or programs.

If you end up with a Stratus3 (I don't think Stratus1 or Stratus2 will work with anything but ForeFlight), remember you have to open Stratus Settings and set the Open ADS-B Mode to On. I think the slider gets put to the Right. If anyone connects to the Stratus3 with ForeFlight, it will switch the Open ADS-B Mode back to Off. So if you, your Co-Pilot, or someone else that uses the same plane/Stratus3 after you do, you'll have to reset the Open ADS-B Mode again. Absent that, it should remain as you left it.

Nelson (and others) -

I have a used PingEFB USB device ADSB receiver (you can look it up) that plugs directly into the USB port of the iFly720 and provides dual band ADSB in. As I no longer need it I'll provide it to someone who can use it for a very reasonable cost.

You can email me at steveposner AT h o t m a i l DOT com.

Mark,
That sounds like an excellent idea for me! Thanks.

I ordered the pre-programmed SD card today .... and will post the results here. Fingers crossed.
