On my last 10 flights we are getting a lot of nexrad storms and precipitation being displayed where there obviously are none.

Very disconcerting. Hard to tell what's accurate and what's bogus.

We are using an iPad getting data on two separate airplanes and see the problems on both trips. The radar on the aircraft display (Aspen) does not show the phantom weather.

Thanks,
John

I had this same thing happen on 5/5/24. Precip showing green, yellow, and red would all of a sudden show up all around my aircraft icon, then disappear after a few minutes. But when this happened, it did not show on my LYNX NGT-9000, which is where iFly was getting it's information from.

Thank you,
Dave

If you guys can catch this while it's happening, the most effective thing you can do is capture an ADSB log during the time when the "phantom radar" appears and disappears, then submit that log as a bug report. Instructions on how to do that are here:

If you guys can catch this while it's happening,...

If you're using an iPad,, you might consider turning on Screen Recording before or early in the flight. That will record everything that appears on the screen as a video (including sound). You can then play it back later or edit it or delete it, like any other video. Look in the pull-down Control Center shortcut (pull it down from the top right corner) for a target-type icon

If it's not there, add it from the list in Settings > Control Center (note the color difference when it's enabled):

Tap the icon and it will count down 4, 3, 2, 1 and begin recording. A small red icon will appear at the top of the screen. It will stop recording if you tap that, or when you shut off the iPad.

Android tablets may have a similar feature.

The screen recording is not going to be so helpful to Brian in troubleshooting this problem. If people are reporting that it's happening, I'm sure he'll believe them. Video proof is not necessary.

The ADSB logs will include the data that iFly is using to draw the imagery, and may contain other clues about why the imagery is erroneous. That's the recording that will be valuable to solving the problem.

Yes, they do.

Hey y'all, sorry about this weird phantom NEXRAD issue. Like Cobra says though, I would definitely recommend enabling ADS-B logging (Menu > Setup > ADSB > Options > Enable ADSB Logger) that way our development can see exactly what's going on in the bug report.

Thanks!

Dev Team,

I had the phantom Nexrad Radar again on 7/2/24. I enabled ADSB Logger during the flight when the issue was happening, then disabled the ADSB Logger after a while. Today (7/3/24), I'm trying to send the bug report but I do not see a data file for the time frame I enabled the ADSB Logger. I only see a file for around the time I started iFly before my flight. Did I miss capturing the phantom Nexrad Radar issue?

Thank you!
Dave

I'm not a member of the Dev Team, but what device, device OS version, and iFly version are you using?

I think iOS devices had a bug regarding ADSB logs, but I thought that had been resolved.

Android device: Alldocube Iplay 50 Mini Pro, Android 13.

iFly Version 13.1.19
When you were looking for the logfile, did you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the list? The ADSB logs are down there.

Nope, that was it. Scrolled to the bottom, sent 3 ADSB logs, logged while iFly was showing phantom Nexrad Weather. Thank you Cobra.
