New to iFly and first post. I also use iFlightPlanner which I was totally (mostly) content with as I'm a low-time VFR pilot. However, I'm also a simmer (both XP and MS24) and iFP can't seem to figure out how to connect to MS. Thus, iFly, which works great and is pretty amazing.

However, it really works my iPad...hard. To the point it slowly drains the battery even while charging. I'm hoping I can turn off some of these bells and whistles to conserve battery. A dead battery in the sim is one thing. In the air is a different story.

Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Here's a few thoughts:
Check the output capability of your charger. Perhaps one with a higher amperage output would keep up with your iPad.

Some USB cables only transfer a limited current/amperage. Maybe try a different cable.

I have something similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/Voltmeter-Am...sc=1&msclkid=cb6c4d88094c110241ad25e06e85a87a , or search for amazon, usb voltmeter, and pick one of the pictures. It's a volt/ammeter that plugs in line between your charger, the USB cable and your iPad. There are several different configurations depending on which USB connector you want/need. It will tell you what the current is that's getting to your iPad. Higher amperage (up to a point) means faster charging.

Maybe your iPad is looking for WiFi/Bluetooth it can't find?

Maybe some other program is running in the background, or has been "closed" but is still running, for some reason?

Have you tried doing a full shutdown? Maybe that will close out renegade programs/operations?

I'm going to also guess that those more knowledgeable than me will want to know what model iPad you have, software version of the iPad and iFly, and other such technical stuff. There may be others that have experienced this, and knowing such things may help narrow it down.
