DECLUTTER VECTOR MAP
Vector maps exists to de clutter the map data down to what the user considers essential.
Recognize these are all still small displays, not pictures on a large computer screen or conference projector.
I used to have truemap which had some brilliant features.
There is a lot more I would like to see removed from IFLY vector map.
Suggestion: in vector map, allow user to select/de-select more layers, and then save as customizable map names.
Example-
“VFR”
“IFR”
“mountains”
“Night”
Takeoff
Enroute
Landing IFR
Landing VFR
For example, I never care about state lines (concealed carry feature?
).
Day VFR I don’t care about terrain …unless low down near it.
Same w obstructions.
Roads of zero interest, etc.
Around Washington DC really only want airports, airspace, nexrad, lighting and w nearby traffic.
And oh yes, ….surface to air ground defense type, radius, and altitude coverage…
IFR similar.
CONTRAST ON SMALL DISPLAYS
Also, wherever possible allow user to select how wide lines are, and perhaps contrast.
Fly Q seems to be more aware of this.
So many applications these days are designed by graphic designers to look pretty, but thin lines and low contrast colors make the information nearly unreadable.
We just bought a very fancy appliance and it’s designers put light gray labels on light blue material. Almost invisible.
What were they thinking???
