Re the new tablet the specs say "A: The unit is larger than the 740b, and has a different type of power source. If your 740b is panel mounted you may need to make modifications to your mounting solution. For size & weight details see the Specifications Tab."

My 740 mounts on the "gooseneck" swivel supplied mount.
The mount (and of course the 740b) is nicely attached to the roof our our cockpit.
Is the tablet's mounting provision such that it can just slide right onto the 740's mount?

I'm unfamiliar with the exact Gooseneck mount you are talking about, but if it is connected to the normal 740b ram ball mount, that slides directly into the back of the unit, this will not work with the new Android tablet.

The new Android tablet can be mounted via a few screws on the back of the device.

I have a 740b with the RAM ball that mounts on the back. Does the new tablet have a way to accept some version of a RAM ball? I realize the 740b had a special RAM ball, but I am asking if some version of the RAM balls that are available will mount to the new tablet.
