Recent convert from ForeFlight and I’m thoroughly impressed. I think Real Plan is fantastic, but I humbly request that you add the following feature:

Please add a slider that lets me say what size buffer I want between me and the airspace I want to avoid. As it is, it seems like my wingtip is dragging the airspace I’m contouring! I brought this up at the booth at OSH, and I was told that this would be difficult for areas of the US where controlled airspace is more dense, like the northeast, but I’d imagine that this wouldn’t be different than asking Real Plan to find routes through the mountains with MSL and AGL constraints… and it could always be set to zero.

I hope you’ll consider adding this in the future. This, plus split screen on IOS, would solidify this EFB as the best I’ve ever used.

How about having a preference selection where we choose how far to keep from airspaces?

1. Have a usual distance to keep from airspaces. For example, (user selected) 10 miles.

2. Have an option that if there are two airspaces less than 20 miles (this value would change with changes in the previous usual avoidance distance in the option above.) apart, RealPlan will split the distance between the two, but still keep you a minimum of (user selected) 2 miles from each airspace.

If #2 is not selected, or if the minimum stated avoidance distance couldn't be maintained RealPlan would circumnavigate the area.

If, for example you want to set #1 at 2 miles, and you're not comfortable any closer than that for any reason, you'd simply not opt into #2.

I think your plane is a more eloquent way to handle this. I like it.

The goal is setting a user defined buffer between flight path and whatever airspace that the user has chosen to avoid. The best method is whatever is easiest for the devs to implement and maintain.

I agree that real plan plots a course way to close to airspace. One of my airplane has no transponder and no ads-b out so cutting that close isn't an option. I am in Northern Illinois fairly close to the O'Hare class B and associated mode C ring. I would never want to get as close to that as real plan does. I don't much care how it is done, but something would be nice.

BTW. How do you vote for something?
On the first post of the conversation in this channel, you should see up and down arrows to the right of the post text. Select the up arrow to vote yes. I think you can only do that once per post.
