Version 13 of iFly EFB for Windows is available NOW!

Please go to this link to download the 13.2.17 Beta Installer: https://www.iflyefb.com/WindowsDownload

If you have any feedback for us, let us know in this forum post!

Thank you everyone for your continued support.

Window size is strange. It seems to take up about 90% of the available screen, with no apparent way to adjust the sizing:

Well phooey. Downloaded and installed without removing previous windows ver 12.2.20 on stock win11 64 bit. Default screen came up in phone mode with huge fonts. Tried changing to tablet mode which caused the program (after a restart) to flicker and jump between a menu and the background map. I was unable to make any changes from the menu, selecting setup always took me to the search menu. Ended up using task manager to kill the program and uninstalled it. Funny - when I went back and opened 12.2.20 - the screen settings had defaulted to phone, windowed version, and large(st) fonts.

Hm. I think I may have installed over 12.2.20 without removing it, but it went smoothly for me. Maybe the difference was that I didn't try to preserve 12.2.20--I think 13.2.17 just overwrote itself in the Program Files > iFly EFB folder.

When I opened 13.2.17 for the first time, it was already associated with my iFly account so I didn't have to re-enter my login credentials. It also recognized my aviation data and prompted me to update the two states I had previously selected for v12.2.20.

I installed 13.2.17 on my Windows Surface Laptop running Windows 11 this morning. The new iFly EFB app comes up with only a black screen. iFly is functional, in the sense that I can click where I know the menus are, and they come up. I can also click where I know the map is and it will pull up information dialog boxes. I tested VFR, Vector, Instrument, and IFR Low formats by clicking the ghosted Map Mode button and the screen is completely dark with all of them.

I tried changing from "Full Screen" display mode, which comes up incorrectly as 1780 x 980 (should be 2256 x 1504), to 1200 x 960 and it still just comes up black.

Although black, I can see that the window is smaller than my screen size, as @Cobra mentioned.

I rebooted my laptop after the first failed startup and it still comes up black.

I will send a bug report.

I found that the 13.2.17 install left my original 12.2.20 version in place, so I can still function using the old.

Well - that didn't work. Now I just have an entirely black window. I can click where 'I know' buttons are and the menu etc. will appear, click somewhere random and a quick options box will appear, but no maps of any kind, no bottom buttons. Just black. Have uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times.

i.e. same asCIMmark's post above.

I have launched iFly 4 times now. 3 times, it came up as expected. However, one time it came up with a black screen. I tapped a couple of times and saw responses as if the app was running (QV screen popped up, I could tap in lower-left and get the main menu to appear, etc.). After about a half-dozen taps, the map layer appeared and subsequent behavior was normal.

This is a much better explanation of what I experienced as well when trying to run the win Beta version. Thanks

@chrisqii, can you tell us if a working version of 13.2 for Windows is still on the front or back burner with the developers? Let me know if they need any additional bug reports. The black-screen issue occurs every time iFly is launched.

We would recommend rolling back to the previous version for now. There is an uninstaller included in the 13.2.17 Windows version "unins000.exe" and can be run from the iFly EFB directory or via the Add or Remove program app. Reinstall the previous version here: https://www.iflyefb.com/WindowsDownload

The development team is working on identifying the root cause of the Windows bugs, especially the display errors. Once a new version is made available for testing there will be an announcement here!

Thank you!

Fixes in this version:

  • Black screen errors on certain Windows Computers

*Full screen support is not entirely here yet in this version, however this version resolves the display instability problems seen in 13.2.17.

No change. 13.2.17 still comes up with a completely black screen. I tried VFR, Vector, and IFR Low with no success. I sent another log.

Same 13.2.27 still gives black screen.

If you know where the buttons are you can click them and menu will appear. I clicked bottom left and got a menu so can confirm the app is actually running just black screen.

I'm curious whether the root cause for this is at all similar to the cause for the similar behavior that was happening on Android for a while.

Just downloaded and installed 13.2.27, had it launch iFlyEFB from the installer, and the screen came up with the map, and everything else expected. I closed it and re-opened it to see if a problem would show up after a restart. It still came up as expected. One thing I noticed that may or may not be as planned is iFly didn't take up the whole screen. There's a band of the Home Screen at the bottom of the image. Another thing is that in the short time I had it open, I couldn't find a way to reduce the iFly program window to allow two windows to exist side by side, if desired. I have a Win10 desktop that's several years old.

Didja read the fine print?

Downloaded this beta - ran installer from download, iFly opened and ran successfully several times. Yes we have less than a full screen as noted by others.

No joy for me. Opens and then immediately closes. I tried both installing without installing the old version; then uninstalling everything, reboot and install just the beta. Same result. Now, admittedly, it could be because I'm using a Microsoft Surface Windows Copilot Plus PC (ie, ARM Snapdragon processor so x64 goes through MSFT's emulation layer), but the old version works perfect.

Just installed 13.2.27 on an $80 Windows 10 mini laptop. It started and ran, updating maps, fine until the 10 minute trial ran out. It did run in the normal Windows window, with the little minus, box(s), and X in the upper right hand corner, which seems to mean it is able to be resized, but didn't have time to try. I also noticed that I had the old version also installed last July of 2023. The older one is installed under Program Files>Adventure Pilot>iFly EFB, The new version is installed in Program Files>iFly EFB.

Did you confirm (via About > Version & Contact) that you were actually running 13.2.27? Maybe it's clearer for you, but I eventually had to rename my shortcuts to say "iFly v12" and "iFly v13" so I could tell them apart....

(I'd also be curious to know what $80 mini laptop you're using...)

When I installed it, I checked the open program button and it opened. I didn't check to see what version I was using at the time. Then it closed and for whatever reason, I opened File Manager and looked to see where it was installed, as well as where the installation program was installed. That's when I found the two different paths. I went into the v12 file and clicked on the iFlyEFB.exe program, and it started. I didn't check the version in this one either.

Hmmm. I guess it's not an $80 computer any more. It's now $49.
