Version 13 of iFly EFB for Windows is available NOW!

Please go to this link to download the 13.2.17 Beta Installer: https://www.iflyefb.com/WindowsDownload

If you have any feedback for us, let us know in this forum post!

Thank you everyone for your continued support.

Window size is strange. It seems to take up about 90% of the available screen, with no apparent way to adjust the sizing:

Well phooey. Downloaded and installed without removing previous windows ver 12.2.20 on stock win11 64 bit. Default screen came up in phone mode with huge fonts. Tried changing to tablet mode which caused the program (after a restart) to flicker and jump between a menu and the background map. I was unable to make any changes from the menu, selecting setup always took me to the search menu. Ended up using task manager to kill the program and uninstalled it. Funny - when I went back and opened 12.2.20 - the screen settings had defaulted to phone, windowed version, and large(st) fonts.

Hm. I think I may have installed over 12.2.20 without removing it, but it went smoothly for me. Maybe the difference was that I didn't try to preserve 12.2.20--I think 13.2.17 just overwrote itself in the Program Files > iFly EFB folder.

When I opened 13.2.17 for the first time, it was already associated with my iFly account so I didn't have to re-enter my login credentials. It also recognized my aviation data and prompted me to update the two states I had previously selected for v12.2.20.

I installed 13.2.17 on my Windows Surface Laptop running Windows 11 this morning. The new iFly EFB app comes up with only a black screen. iFly is functional, in the sense that I can click where I know the menus are, and they come up. I can also click where I know the map is and it will pull up information dialog boxes. I tested VFR, Vector, Instrument, and IFR Low formats by clicking the ghosted Map Mode button and the screen is completely dark with all of them.

I tried changing from "Full Screen" display mode, which comes up incorrectly as 1780 x 980 (should be 2256 x 1504), to 1200 x 960 and it still just comes up black.

Although black, I can see that the window is smaller than my screen size, as @Cobra mentioned.

I rebooted my laptop after the first failed startup and it still comes up black.

I will send a bug report.

I found that the 13.2.17 install left my original 12.2.20 version in place, so I can still function using the old.

Well - that didn't work. Now I just have an entirely black window. I can click where 'I know' buttons are and the menu etc. will appear, click somewhere random and a quick options box will appear, but no maps of any kind, no bottom buttons. Just black. Have uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times.

i.e. same asCIMmark's post above.

I have launched iFly 4 times now. 3 times, it came up as expected. However, one time it came up with a black screen. I tapped a couple of times and saw responses as if the app was running (QV screen popped up, I could tap in lower-left and get the main menu to appear, etc.). After about a half-dozen taps, the map layer appeared and subsequent behavior was normal.

This is a much better explanation of what I experienced as well when trying to run the win Beta version. Thanks

@chrisqii, can you tell us if a working version of 13.2 for Windows is still on the front or back burner with the developers? Let me know if they need any additional bug reports. The black-screen issue occurs every time iFly is launched.

We would recommend rolling back to the previous version for now. There is an uninstaller included in the 13.2.17 Windows version "unins000.exe" and can be run from the iFly EFB directory or via the Add or Remove program app. Reinstall the previous version here: https://www.iflyefb.com/WindowsDownload

The development team is working on identifying the root cause of the Windows bugs, especially the display errors. Once a new version is made available for testing there will be an announcement here!

Thank you!

No change. 13.2.17 still comes up with a completely black screen. I tried VFR, Vector, and IFR Low with no success. I sent another log.

Same 13.2.27 still gives black screen.

1731107648648.png

If you know where the buttons are you can click them and menu will appear. I clicked bottom left and got a menu so can confirm the app is actually running just black screen.

I'm curious whether the root cause for this is at all similar to the cause for the similar behavior that was happening on Android for a while.

Just downloaded and installed 13.2.27, had it launch iFlyEFB from the installer, and the screen came up with the map, and everything else expected. I closed it and re-opened it to see if a problem would show up after a restart. It still came up as expected. One thing I noticed that may or may not be as planned is iFly didn't take up the whole screen. There's a band of the Home Screen at the bottom of the image. Another thing is that in the short time I had it open, I couldn't find a way to reduce the iFly program window to allow two windows to exist side by side, if desired. I have a Win10 desktop that's several years old.

Downloaded this beta - ran installer from download, iFly opened and ran successfully several times. Yes we have less than a full screen as noted by others.

No joy for me. Opens and then immediately closes. I tried both installing without installing the old version; then uninstalling everything, reboot and install just the beta. Same result. Now, admittedly, it could be because I'm using a Microsoft Surface Windows Copilot Plus PC (ie, ARM Snapdragon processor so x64 goes through MSFT's emulation layer), but the old version works perfect.

Just installed 13.2.27 on an $80 Windows 10 mini laptop. It started and ran, updating maps, fine until the 10 minute trial ran out. It did run in the normal Windows window, with the little minus, box(s), and X in the upper right hand corner, which seems to mean it is able to be resized, but didn't have time to try. I also noticed that I had the old version also installed last July of 2023. The older one is installed under Program Files>Adventure Pilot>iFly EFB, The new version is installed in Program Files>iFly EFB.

Did you confirm (via About > Version & Contact) that you were actually running 13.2.27? Maybe it's clearer for you, but I eventually had to rename my shortcuts to say "iFly v12" and "iFly v13" so I could tell them apart....

(I'd also be curious to know what $80 mini laptop you're using...)

When I installed it, I checked the open program button and it opened. I didn't check to see what version I was using at the time. Then it closed and for whatever reason, I opened File Manager and looked to see where it was installed, as well as where the installation program was installed. That's when I found the two different paths. I went into the v12 file and clicked on the iFlyEFB.exe program, and it started. I didn't check the version in this one either.

Hmmm. I guess it's not an $80 computer any more. It's now $49.

I just installed iFly EFB Installer Beta 13.2.38.exe for windows. After installation it will not start. No error messages, it just does nothing.

Again, same. But I did fudge around a bit and prompted this error popup: iFly start problem.JPG

It looks like an older version of the software has been made available recently. Which version should be used?

1738126049214.png

I deleted all versions of iFly on my Windows 11 machine and then installed the 13.2.27 version and it worked.....I haven't tried installing .38 on top of that install yet......

Thank you... The new 13.3.7 version works well. There is still a problem with full screen view.

Same experience as MadMerlin: Installation and launch went well, and spot checking several iFly functions appears to work as expected. Only oddity noted is that the full screen is not full-screeen--there is a strip at the bottom that iFly doesn't use.

Maybe this is intentional to leave the Windows taskbar exposed for easy access, but iFly doesn't "mate up" with the taskbar; it stops several pixels short, leaving a gap where underlying windows are visible, which is distracting:
1738760225905.png

Unfortunately, the 13.3.7 version still comes up completely black on Windows Surface Laptop. It has been this way with all 13 versions. It worked (and still works) fine with version 12. Log file sent.

iFly EFB Blank Screen - 20250205.png

I accidentally left iFly running in the background on my AMD-based Win11 laptop. Not sure how long it was running; definitely more than 12 hours, maybe a couple of days. When I brought it to the foreground, the area I expected to see the moving map was all black (it had previously been showing the sectional map layer--see my reply #33. Like CIMark, I was able to click on the black "map" and get expected responses, like menu popups, QuickViews, etc., but the "map" remained black.

With iFly set to full screen (which on my computer isn't using all of the screen, I can see desktop on the right and the bottom, my resolution is set to 2560x1440) I was able to get the map to go to black by opening a command prompt on top of the map. This doesn't happen 100% of the time but I was able to repro the black map issue by doing this.

Just for completeness, could you guys confirm you're running 13.3.7 when you see these behaviors?

I just recently tried to open v13.3.7, but what actually opened was v13.2.27. I didn't even realize I still had a v13.2 installed. I wonder if you guys might possibly be seeing similar behavior?

I uninstalled all previous versions prior to installing 13.3.7. As I recall version 12 did not have the black map or the full screen problem. I could reinstall it to test if that would be helpful.

I downloaded and installed 13.3.7 the other day, clicked on iFly EFB today checked and it was an earlier version. Checked my desktop and found a second iFly EFB icon and clicked on that. That opened the 13.3.7. So, it seems when iFly EFB installed itself, it didn't take over the old icon and path for the old version. Is that the way it should happen?

So far it hasn't gone black.

Just repro'ed it again using powershell window to cause it to go black. Note that my screen shot is gray, this is due to the iFly window not having focus, it was the only way I could get the powershell window on top so you can see it. When the iFly window has focus it turns black.

iFly EFB has been running since my last posting. I haven't been doing much with it, but I have been doing other web browsing, and it still looks like iFly EFB. I also have the little band at the bottom that shows the desktop, and menu bar along the bottom.

Just an FYI... I believe you have accidentally released the new 13.3.9 beta into the wrong area. It is now available outside of the beta download area.

I'm not sure that was an accident. This thread that you are replying to is posted in the "General Discussion" forum, which is open to the public (not restricted to just beta testers).

I don't understand the rationale, but it seems intentional that this is not a restricted release.

(I also don't understand why there have recently been a couple of new Windows versions posted here and Android versions on the beta site that were not announced. 🤷🏻‍♂️)

Yes, I agree, I too do not understand why this thread is in the public forum since we are discussing beta versions of the software. It looks like the original post indicates 13.3 final was released. I don't think these new 13.3 versions are ready for production release just yet. I really do appreciate the effort to get the Windows version up to speed with the others.

Also, the version number in control panel/programs shows the new 13.3.9 version number, but in the iFly app the about version show the old 13/3/7 version number. Prior to checking I uninstalled all versions of iFly before installing 13.3.9. The full screen issue still persists.
1739486773033.png

Also, the black screen problems continue...

Just FYI, and to reiterate. I renamed the path for 13.3.7 to
"C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Local\Programs\iFly EFB 13.3.7\iFly EFB.exe", then installed what was labeled 13.3.9 which installed itself in the
"C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Local\Programs\iFly EFB\iFly EFB.exe" When I launched it and checked Menu>About>Version & Contact it still says 13.3.7. So either someone neglected to change the advertised version number, and the "what's new" blurb, or it's actually installing 3.7.

Hello Everyone,

Here are some updates on Version 13.3 for Windows:
  • We are posting the Beta version of iFly EFB for Windows in the latest release tab to cast a wider net for testing. Consider this a public beta.
  • The version discrepancy has been updated in the most recent version of the installer, which can be found here: Windows Download
  • The next version of Windows should be available soon, we are currently working on a v13.3 release candidate for Android & iOS!
  • A mistake made during compiling caused iFly EFB to get installed in the C:\Users\{Your User}\AppData\Local\Programs\iFly EFB folder. This was not intended and we apologize for the confusion caused by this change. We recommend uninstalling via the uninstall program located in the root directory for iFly EFB, or the Add/Remove Programs app in Windows. Then, reinstall the most recent version. (Your user files are stored in C:\_iFlyGPS_Data\User so do not worry about losing any files).
Thank you all for your continued patience.

The Adventure Pilot Team

Just uninstalled the old 13.3.9 and installed the new 13.3.9. It appears to install into the correct directories and the version numbers are now correct. However, the full screen problem remains, and the black map problem remains. I did notice when I started the app that the whole screen turned white and then it resized to a smaller window and displayed the map. My setting are set to Full Screen, Non-Windowed mode.

I finally got around to uninstalling the old 13.3.9 version and installed the new one on my Microsoft Surface Laptop (Win11). It now just comes up with the following error. Previously, it had been coming up with just a black screen. I tried selecting the "Reset Settings" button, but the error persists. I will send an error log to support.

Beta 13.3.22 Released for Windows

Windows Download

Hello everyone! We have a new version for Windows to test.

In this version:

  • Significant improvements to Map Engine logic. Reduction in crashes.
  • Fixed the full screen error, full screen should be working now as expected.

We are also curious if anyone gets a black screen error. We have been unable to reproduce this on our own devices, so please report back here.

Thank you!
