X7 Mounting

You mean something like this?

Maybe. The challenge I have is that I'm trying to make it as flush as possible to cover up the old "glove box"(where the portable intercom is). I wasn't sure if I could access the grip knobs if they were buried in the box.

You might consider fabricating a cover plate for that hole with a mounted RAM ball and using a short double socket 1" RAM arm to attach to a tablet holder similar to what @Cobra displayed. Be careful if installing anything in a certified aircraft because the FAA is the FAA. Ask your mechanic to review and sign off on anything "installed." There are RAM ball mounts that are magnetic or adhesive that would mitigate any FAA scrutiny in a certified aircraft because those are not considered permanent installations.

Arkon also makes a great mount for Tabs, if not "permanent." But, IMHO, just mounting a perm. base to a cover plate is not going to get you busted as long as it interferes with no controls or system components. And that would be a great solution, as @Gatormyk suggested.

Thanks guys...I ordered an Arkon mount and will use the 4 hole pattern to surface mount to a plate that was fabricated. The plane is in for annual and I'll work with my mechanic as far as the install.
