VFR Pattern Entry - ala Foreflights Procedure Advisor

Hi - welcome to iFly and the forums. The feature you highlighted may be similar to the traffic pattern flow (left/right) found in iFly when one looks at the airport info or expands the runways. I looked at the link you posted - I'm sorry, but I don't see much more info provided for VFR traffic pattern entry into an non-towered airport than exists in iFly.

Which windows version isn't working for you? I'm running 13.2.27 on Win 11 and it runs flawlessly. There may be some bugs with a "newer" beta version, but afaik 13.2.27 works well on win11.

Foreflight's is quite a bit different. They also have 'on map' L/R pattern indication, but when approaching an airport, in procedures, you can choose the pattern entry that makes the most sense on your position relative to the preferred runway...For example, you can chose 45 degree, tear drop, mid field cross over and it automatically plots the course on the map. Scroll down to the Traffic Pattern on the page linked earlier. Here's a link to the image: https://support.foreflight.com/hc/article_attachments/360094811174

13.2.27 would open then immediately quit on Windows, 13.2.28, doesn't even bother opening. Seems others are having issues too. Odd.

I would like to come back to iFly but the Foreflight Traffic Pattern feature is a nice plus for VFR pilots. Hopefully iFly can create that feature also.

I just saw what ForeFlight was doing in that graphic. That is great too! I wonder as well if this is something that iFly will incorporate? I really wish I knew which recommendations and when such suggestions would be considered to be implemented. I know it's not as easy to get answers to these types of questions... but it would be great to know YES that you are working on implementing them, or NO, this will not be something you will see in our product? I truly don't mean to be difficult, but some hints as to what you are prioritizing would be great to see as a user! Keep up the great work. You guys are actually amazing at listening to your customer base and trying to make it all happen. Thank you, it's appreciated.

There are probably rea$on$ why FF has it. Well.. FF has it, so…

I wish this doesn’t ever get implemented; we don’t need more airplane “drivers” looking at a magenta line when they should be looking out the window for traffic.

Yeah I don't know personally I don't buy that... You can say that about the entire EFB... These are tools to use You still have to know how to do it. If you have a tool that will allow you to do something the right way instead of the wrong way.... It's probably not a bad thing. Also, there could be an argument that if you have this feature and use it you actually learn from it. I'd rather have somebody be doing the appropriate entry rather than doing a 5 mi final or base cuz they don't know how to enter the traffic pattern correctly. So I see what you're saying but I just don't see that being an issue here in my opinion of course,

Take care

Well, this would be a deficiency in training and best addressed at that point. There are tools one can use (while comfortably sitting on their couch) to learn. There’s no guarantee the somebody doing a 5 mi final will heed the app…

Executing the “appropriate entry” helps but doesn’t increase safety as dramatically as looking out the window.

Fly safe.

Adventure Pilot doesn't usually post publicly about which features they're working on or when they'll become available in iFly, for the same reasons Garmin and FF don't: Trade secret / competitive advantage, the risk of userbase disappointment if priorities change and features are delayed/discontinued, etc.

That said, AP does very much take into account the feature requests made on this forum when deciding what improvements to make to the product. You can get a rough idea of how much AP will prioritize something by comparing the upvotes various feature requests have received. That's not a guarantee, and it doesn't really say anything about when you'll see it added to the product, but if you look back in time, many of the highest-rated suggestions here have been incorporated into the product.

I understand what you're saying especially in regards to the deficiency but doesn't mean deficiency and training.... The common sense isn't so common...some people will just rather do what's easier if they feel unsure about a given situation (hense the 5 mile final) . And if there's something that will help you in the moment to make the correct choice... call it what you want but I call it a tool. Always learn the reasons why we do things.... but the more tools we have that allow us to fly safer the better.
